Tobacco Use Prevention Programs

Futuro Claro:
Supported By: American Legacy Foundation

Futuro Claro (Clear Future) is a tobacco prevention and cessation program. To successfully implement this program, CSF has developed partnerships with existing organizations in the community. Local growers help promote the implementation and enforcement of no-smoking policies on transportation buses. ASHline, the statewide hotline, helps provide phone-based cessation service to those living in South Yuma County, and the Yuma County Health Department helps facilitate referral for South Yuma County.

Futuro Claro has 3 goals:

  • To use peer educators to provide culturally appropriate outreach to young Latino adults
  • To reduce exposure to second hand smoke among farmworkers by enforcing no-smoking policies on agricultural buses
  • To provide culturally appropriate and accessible peer support groups for young adult Latinos in order to facilitate tobacco cessation

Controla el Tabaco/Controla tu Vida:
Supported By: Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS)

Controla el Tabaco/Controla tu Vida (Control Tobacco/Control Your Life) is another project that provides prevention education in South Yuma County to significantly reduce tobacco use and prevent initiation in the low-income Hispanic community. It also facilitates cessation among tobacco users in order to lower the incidence of tobacco related health issues.
